Service Description

Opportunity to spend 5 days working with some of Australia's most unique wildlife. Follow Dr Audrey Shen, Dr Scott Bainbridge, Dr Rosemary Austen and Professor Steve Garlick treating kangaroos, wombats, possums, lizards, snakes, echidnas and much more. Assist with medical procedures and surgeries on some of the most amazing animals and get involved in the rescue and rehabilitation of many injured wildlife. The 5 day program brings you behind the scenes in a kangaroo, wombat and dingo sanctuary and rotations through Possumwood Wildlife Hospital- a dedicated wildlife hospital set up during the 2019-2020 Bushfires. The hospital and sanctuaries are located in and around Bungendore, New South Wales -a small rural town just 30 minutes from Canberra. Volunteers assist in the sanctuary with daily tasks, wildlife rescues, rehabilitation and bottle feeding sessions with baby wombats and joeys. Put your veterinary skills to use at the busy wildlife hospital and learn about the intriguing anatomy of our Australian wildlife up close! November 25-29th 2024 Day 1- Introduction session and tour of Possumwood Wildlife Sanctuary and Hospital Split sessions : Wildlife Hospital Rotation and Sanctuary Tasks/Bottle Feedings Day2- Visit to Wombat Sanctuary and Wildlife Hospital Day 3- Discover Bungendore- Wineries and Night tour of Two Thumbs Sanctuary (Sugar Gliders and Koala spotting) Day 4- Anatomy Class and Post Mortem session Split sessions: Wildlife Hospital Rotation and Sanctuary Tasks/Bottle Feedings Day 5- Visit to Dingo Sanctuary *Limited places of 8 *AUD $4,000 (PRICE IN AUSTRALIAN DOLLARS) Fee includes a sizeable donation to Possumwood Wildlife Sanctuary, program as above and daily breakfasts, lunches and transfers. Flights not included. Group Accomodation for 5 nights -additional AUD $1,000 per person.
