How can we work with your clinic?
Dr. Scott Bainbridge is a Canadian veterinarian that has been practicing small animal medicine for the past 25 years. His current hospital employs 11 veterinarians and over 60 support staff.
In 2020, Scott started rewarding his team members with paid trips to Coastal Ecuador where they would assist in 2 day sterilization campaigns and also get to have a little relaxation time in a tropical paradise. Not only did these programs turn out to be a win-win for his people and the local coastal communities, but he never anticipated the long-lasting positive effects these trips would have on them and himself. Being involved in these campaigns “filled their buckets”! The experience solidly bonded them with other team members and allowed them to give something back to the profession that they have worked so hard for. To say they were proud of their efforts and grateful for the experience, would be an understatement. These efforts have greatly improved the pet overpopulation issue on the coast and many of them are now considered local heroes.
We have now completed 7 of these campaigns over the last four years and his team members are lined up to volunteer for the next experience. Another unexpected benefit from these trips is that they no longer struggle to hire new veterinarians/RVTs now that the word is out that they offer these types of programs to their team. So how does this affect your clinics? It is no secret that some of the biggest stumbling blocks for veterinary hospitals these days are staff retention, acquisition of new talent and issues surrounding team mental health.
Dr Scott has now partnered with Dr. Audrey Shen (Bondi Vet TV show) in Australia and created an adventure education company called IVVO (International Veterinary Volunteer Opportunities). IVVO specializes in customizing unique hands-on experiences tailored to veterinary staff. We currently have trips planned for Coastal Ecuador, a unique Australian wildlife experience just outside of Sydney Australia and also an opportunity to visit Tchimpounga, Jane Goodall’s chimpanzee conservation and rehabilitation sanctuary in The Congo. We also have many more unique experiences planned for the future.
IVVO would love to host your team members on one of our next trips and we would be happy to also customize an entire trip specifically for your hospitals. Feel free to contact us directly for more information.
