Possumwood Wildlife Sanctuary
Opportunity to spend 5 days working with some of Australia's most unique wildlife. Follow Dr Audrey Shen, Dr Scott Bainbridge, Dr Rosemary Austen and Professor Steve Garlick treating kangaroos, wombats, possums, lizards, snakes, echidnas and much more.
Assist with medical procedures and surgeries on some of the most amazing animals and get involved in the rescue and rehabilitation of many injured wildlife. The 5 day program brings you behind the scenes in a kangaroo, wombat and dingo sanctuary and rotations through Possumwood Wildlife Hospital- a dedicated wildlife hospital set up during the 2019-2020 Bushfires.
The hospital and sanctuaries are located in and around Bungendore, New South Wales -a small rural town just 30 minutes from Canberra. Volunteers assist in the sanctuary with daily tasks, wildlife rescues, rehabilitation and bottle feeding sessions with baby wombats and joeys. Put your veterinary skills to use at the busy wildlife hospital and learn about the intriguing anatomy of our Australian wildlife up close!
This course is approved for 34 CE hours. This program has been submitted for 34 hours of continuing education credit in jurisdictions which recognise AAVSB's RACE approval; however, participants should be aware that some boards have limitations on the number of hours accepted in certain categories and/or restrictions on certain methods of delivery of continuing education.
Itinerary
Day 1- Arrivals and Intro session. Check into accomodation. Group dinner.
Day 2- Split sessions : Wildlife Hospital Rotation and Sanctuary Tasks/Bottle Feedings. Rescues. Sunset wombat walks.
Day 3- Split sessions: Wildlife Hospital Rotation, anatomy class and Sanctuary Tasks/Bottle Feedings. Rescues. Sunset wombat walks.
Day 4- Sydney Fox and Dingo Sanctuary and Two Thumbs Sanctuary
Day 5- Morning hike to Gibraltar Peak and visit to Bungendore Wineries and local shopping.
Day 6- Departures
*Limited places of 8 *AUD $3,999 (PRICE IN AUSTRALIAN DOLLARS) Fee includes a sizeable donation to Possumwood Wildlife Sanctuary, program as above accomodation for 5 nights, daily breakfasts and transfers. Flights not included.
